It is important to make sure you eKEY stays updated. The eKEY only requires cell service or Wi-Fi to update once every 24-hours and service is not needed when actually opening a keybox or shackle (read more about eKey myths).
Manually Updating
This can be done manually before leaving your house or office.
Open the eKEY app and tap the update button manually while within range of adequate cell service or when connected Wi-Fi. |
Automatic Updating
There is a better way! By enabling the background application usage in your smart device, your eKEY app will continuously update automatically. This frees you to focus on what’s really important, the showing! The process for enabling the Background App Refresh (iOS device) or Background Data Usage (Android device) is simple:
It’s important to note that allowing apps to run in the background does in fact utilize your phone’s data when not connected to Wi-Fi.
iOS Device:
1. Go to Settings 2. Select General 3. Select Background App Refresh 4. Turn ON the toggle switch for the Supra eKEY |
Android Device:
1. Go to Settings 2. Select Connections 3. Select Data Usage 4. Select Mobile Data Usage (or Wi-fi data usage) 5. Select Supra eKEY 6. Enable Allow Background Data Usage |
Why does this work? What Does it Do?
Apps that are granted access to background data usage will connect to your cell service or Wi-Fi even when closed. This allows certain apps (such as Twitter, Instagram, or eKEY) to continue to remain updated with the latest information, even if you haven’t opened them in awhile.

I followed the directions here. When I get to Background App Refresh and scroll down to Supra eKey, there is no button to turn on or off.
